March and April 2017 Bucket List

So since I am playing catch-up with these posts I thought I would combine the months with only a couple items. Let's start off with what I checked off in March.

I started out with another Jungle Jim's purchase and tried Salted Duck Eggs.

These were fantastic added to my ramen, but not something I would ever grab to eat on their own. The yolk is a bit grainy but it mixed in to the broth pretty well.

I also got to have some bestie time in March and as usual we went out to eat. I had an over the top at Milwaukee Burger Co with a side of poutine. How I made it 29 years without eating poutine I will never know.  It is such a perfect food. I wish it was something I had access to far more often.

Gravy, cheese curds, and fries. How could anything be so perfect? And that burger.... it was called the Blueberry Hangover burger. The patty was marinated in blueberries and it was served on some type of blueberry bread. Toppings included a cheesy hashbrown patty, blueberry jalapeno jam, brown sugar bacon, and a fried egg. It was a complete and utter mess. It was also to die for. If you have one of these near you please go eat this.

And that wraps up March. April was also more food. The first item allowed me to check off one recipe from my 44 French Meals list and 2 foods that are really the same thing. I made Boudin Noir Aux Pommes with Black Pudding (which is a blood sausage so I also checked off Boudin Noir after deeming it silly to have both on my list).

The potatoes were some of the best I had ever had. they got demolished. The sausage not so much...as it usually goes when I try to feed the whole family something weird it was not successful. I could likely get everyone to eat the potatoes again though so it was more successful than other "weird" dishes.

And last but not least, Little Lark and I tried Durian. I found Frozen Durian at Jungle  Jim's and figured that was a better way to try it than buying an entire fruit.

I only ate 3 bites. Little Lark ate the rest and I am convinced he would have eaten the whole package if I let him.

This is before I took my first bite, I am filled with skeptical hope and thinking surely the tales of the scent can't hold true when it is frozen. That first bite was like a smooth, sweet custard. The second bite was like that too, but like you were eating that surrounded by old gym socks. Once I caught a whiff of it I couldn't enjoy it anymore. If I am ever travelling I will try it fresh and as a shake though. Please enjoy Little Lark's absolute pleasure while eating his 10th bite of durian in the video below. My little adventurous eater is able to enjoy even more than his momma.

And with that March and April are done. I will have May and June posted soon as well. Does anyone have any funky foods Little Lark and I should add to our list?

Until next time,
xoxo
